Building a streaming service for public libraries

The story

FörlagEtt asked Slagkryssaren to develop Cineasterna, a Video Streaming Service directed to libraries, which complements bigger existing streaming services such as Netflix with high quality niche films and old classics. Slagkryssaren developed Cineasterna by utilising Amazon Web Services together with a customer front-end, back-office and backend.

The challenge

The project started under extremely pressed time plan and financial restraints. Through a constructive dialogue and creative solutions a minimum viable first release of the product was released on time.

The result

We delivered the project on time and budget while actually adding further functionality to the original minimum viable service. Cineasterna started as a highly appreciated service, leading to rapid growth of user base and available titles. Over 350 public libraries are already connected and the service reaches out to more than 1.000.000 users. Cineasterna was also praised by leading cultural journalists such as Mårten Blomkvist at Dagens Nyheter (2017-11-24) and by Wanda Bendjelloul at TV4 Nyhetsmorgon (2017-12-19). The project is still ongoing, adding new features and libraries at an increasing pace.

"The quality film service Cineasterna was launched in Fall 2017 for Swedish public libraries. It has become a great success with a tremendous user growth and highest ratings by users and media experts and critics. FörlagEtt thanks Slagkryssaren for handling all technical aspects of this project in such a skilled and competent way. It is a pleasure working with Slagkryssaren!"
